Sugar has long been a difficult habit to break, and while it's not officially classified as an addiction like alcohol or nicotine, it can trigger cravings and withdrawal-like symptoms. Excessive sugar, especially fructose, can damage the liver in ways similar to alcohol and is strongly linked to heart disease. Thanks in part to powerful industry lobbying, sugar's health risks have often been downplayed, while fat has taken most of the blame. But both deserve scrutiny, and the public deserves better awareness of sugar’s true impact on health.
