    There are 3 underlying considerations:

    1. Active power factor correction (PFC) rather than leaving it to chance.

    2. Transient current spikes from outdated inductive PSC motors rather than ECM.

    3. Dynamic, cooperative load scheduling, including regional optimizations as suggested by extending smart thermostats. This probably means running HVAC at partially-inconvenient times and supercooling so load won't be needed later. Larger hysteresis values might help overall too.
