Looking back at Apple's previous architecture transition, a Power Mac G5 sold in 2006 was supported by Mac OS X Leopard in 2007, but not by (x86 only) Snow Leopard in 2008.
So by my count, the last intel Mac Pro is getting at least one more year of OS support than the Power Mac G5 did.
Personally I'd like to see Apple commit to 10 years of OS support from original purchase date (vs. system introduction date), since the hardware often lasts that long, but their business incentive is to sell hardware.
