  > Hong Kong Housing Authority was formed in 1954, soon after a major file [apparent typo, should read "fire"] in Shek Kip Mei left 53000 people homeless on Christmas day of 1953.

  Apparently this was a large-scale makeshift encampment / slum.

  Also the links to floor plans are kind of the best part. Super interesting.

  I have some family in Hong Kong that lived in public housing for the longest time. Some of the newer apartments were pretty good. 40th floor, nice view, free WiFi.
