Ask HN: Ask for a Raise or Become Invaluable?

    It's usually more effective to ask for a raise before committing to extra work, eg. you agree that you will do some extra work, and if you deliver within the next 30-60-90 days, then you will get a raise

    If you already started doing the extra work, you don't have much leverage. However, if you are not enjoying your job, maybe the best option is to look for another one

    Alternatively, if you feel you've already proven yourself, just ask for a different project, or additional responsibilities and set what you want in exchange for delivering

    If you do the work, at the very least, you'll get experience that you can put on your resume. And if the company keeps their word, you get a raise too
