Ask HN: How are you backing up your password managers?

by neo_doom on 1/13/25, 4:38 PM with 2 comments

Migrating to a new browser (back to Firefox after a 10 year hiatus) and setting stuff up again. Bitwarden and Authy have made the migration easy and secure but it got me thinking that if I lost access to one or both of those, I would be totally screwed.

How do you protect against these single points of failure?

I export our 1Password vaults more or less quarterly, encrypt them using openssl, and stash them in an encrypted, expiring, s3 bucket.
