The Earnest Shackleton quote "Men wanted for hazardous journey, small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful, honor and recognition in case of success," while very famous and often quoted, is likely apocryphal[1]. In additional to a complete lack of any source, the British Shackleton would never have used the American spelling of "honor."
