Hey HN! I am Adi, One of the builders of Zipshot(https://zipshot.co/) and a FAANG engineer.

Zipshot is a power packed screenshot app for individuals and teams. Screenshots are essential for communication and information sharing with people, whether it's with friends or colleagues. While every operating systems support capturing screenshots natively, it is not as easy and straightforward to share screenshots or edit them or add your comments on top. Also, OS does a poor job in naming the screenshot files and it ends up cluttering desktop for most people while being a pain to search later on.

Zipshot address all these problem and more:

  * Cloud storage & sharable link
  * Sharing settings and making images private
  * Annotations, Comments, and a Powerful editor
  * Dashboard and auto-naming of screenshots.
  * Private, Encrypted, & One click data download.
## Why we built it

Most of the decent screenshot tools out there are paid, and we found the UX to be lacking. As someone who grew up during the early days of the internet, I really dislike how even the simplest tools require a subscription now — even if you use them infrequently. With Zipshot, our goal to keep it free for individual users forever.

## How we plan to do it

  * Our backend is designed to be lightweight enough to handle a large user base on the free tier.
  * Screenshots older than 3 months are automatically deleted (you can download them anytime beforehand) to avoid indefinite storage costs.
  * If we need to monetize, we can explore creative options like an enterprise plan, SaaS newsletter ads (without spamming your images!), or something equally non-intrusive.
## What’s next

Today Zipshot is used by a tiny number of users and they love it. We have new stuff on our roadmap like.

  * OCR-based text copy from screenshots
  * Google Drive integration so you can fully own your data
  * Full-page scrolling screenshots
  * Editor tools to prettify your screenshots for social media
  * A Windows app is in the works!

## What we need

Your support and constructive feedback. Download and try the mac app or the chrome extension or both (Mac app is more powerful). We are improving the app everyday.

Just tried it for a bit. Will try it in team setting soon. It gets annoying to pay for a plugin that is just few minor upgrades to screenshot tool that comes with apple.

How does this compare to other free tools in the market?
