It definitely has real metal frame, engine, drive-train, wheels and brakes. It is just a lego shell around that metal body.

Wow, they built a drivable 1:1 LEGO Technic McLaren P1 and got Lando Norris to drive it around Silverstone? That's really wild! I'm wondering how you come up with the tessellation they used on the body and all the stress test associated with testing such a huge model. Big congrats to the team, 8000 hours to deliver seems quite low for such a huge achievement to be honest.
