Ask HN: How to signal AI startups hiring scams?

Hi dear HN community,

I recently applied to an AI/ML startup (opened in Dec 2023, seed state around 10M) and, after 3 technical good interviews I got interviewed by the founder that tells me, after 5 min of interview, that I was "ready" for its company (sic). No "hello", no "goodbye".

After 20-30 min of discussion, and the fact that the startup received tons of applications but hired "only 3 persons", got questions about the job that I was never aware of, I am now convinced that this company is doing fake hiring interviews.

I received the rejection email a few hours later with no feedback at all. I sent an email to ask more information and, also, to talk how I was confused by the interview, but no response (yet).

Is there a website or something to prevent people to apply there, or just give feedbacks to the company that startups should actually perform "human centric" interviews please? (Especially if you are an AI/ML startup.)

Thanks in advance.

It would surprise me to find a company going through so much trouble with interviews if they didn’t intend to hire. Big waste of their time and resources, and for what purpose?

More likely: in this market they got overwhelmed with too many applicants, and in the end didn’t choose you. That happens. I suggest not taking it personally, and not seeking to punish the company.

Scam seems unlikely, but if you have real evidence they scammed you then by all means call them out. But consider alternate explanations and the potential damage you do to your reputation making accusations.

US Companies working to arrange permanent resident status for their already existing visa worker have to prove that they cannot find a qualified candidate.

For that they have to place bunch of ads, get through doomed-to-fail interviews with candidates just to comply with INS processes.

So tons of ads exists just to accomodate INS and nothing to do with your skills.

It sucks not to get hired.

Maybe the founder got a whiff of this burns-bridges vibe. It’s why interviews. Good luck.
