Ask HN: Best Domain Registrar?

by cpr on 8/2/24, 3:39 PM with 5 comments

I've got domains scattered around various registrars, mostly Godaddy, whom I loathe.

Any suggestions for the best place to consolidate?

Might depend on what you want.

    Cost+service - http://porkbun.com

    Service+extras+non-US - https://netim.com

    Privacyish - https://njal.la/

While cloudflare's a few cents cheaper, not giving freedom to set DNS is a no-go and not worth those few cents. I'm also not that interested in further cloudflare tracking.

AWS: Route53 apparently works better with AWS's SES (cheap emailing). But that's what a friend says, I don't use AWS.

I'd suggest not to consolidate unless you've good reason to put all your eggs in one basket.

A good topic for me to look out for other options and reasons for them.

I dunno, my buddy told me about PorkBun, so I switch over from Hover. I like the ease of use; it is just simple, I think, to get the things done I need done with my domains so I can move on with my day.

Porkbun is very nice. I moved all my domains to it.

I use cloudflare because they're a few bucks cheaper than most places. But I also hear good things about porkbun.

If your hosting on AWS anyway, you can't go wrong with Route 53.

I find AWS to be the most straightforward...
