Air-launched SM-6 seen in Hawaii on F/A-18

    Targeting is problem with air launched long range intercept. Aegis ships have good radars on them. Aircraft have much weaker and SM-6 itself even weaker.

    You need to add dual seeker (radar+ infrared seeker) for intercept in very long range. Both Chinese very long range air to air and Israel Aerospace in Arrow are already using them.
