Show HN: Midday – Run your business smarter (open-source)

by pontusabb on 6/20/24, 12:25 PM with 36 comments

My best friend and I are building an open-source platform for micro businesses, freelancers, and contractors to manage their operations more efficiently. Our platform offers tools for financial insights, time tracking, invoicing, and more.

It's fully open-source, and we are adopting an open startup approach with public metrics.

We'd love to hear your thoughts!

I know HN frowns upon sappy positive comments, but I have to say:

I have been using Midday for a few months now and it's been an incredible experience – from the "ask AI" feature to the product notifications, every part of this product is crafted with tender loving care (TLC).

The fact that they're fully open-source and self-hostable is just cherry on top :D

This is great, of course I would only use this offline selfhosted if possible.

One suggestion is be more clear about what it does in the Github description. People will star it and might search for it and if they search for invoice or financial they won't get this up.

I will give it a try, I have tried several invoicing services and they are all bad, to the point I do it manually now, but I will check this out.

This might be a dumb question, since it's open sourced (thank you!), how do you guys monetize this?

    > nice to see @middayai generative ui features built on @vercel AI sdk midday is becoming one of the best OSS @nextjs real-world apps

I see this quote on your home page. What's your experience using generative UI?

Love the design. I’ve seen other startups do the same thing and fall on bank integrations, will you solve it?

Is there any documentation about self-hosting this? I don't see any docker stuff.

Well done! I'm curious why are you so dependant to Supabase ??

Looks nice, but I have some questions: - I see that you store files. Do you expect people to migrate their files away from Google Drive (one of the most popular option for contractors and micro business) ? - Do you support multiple currencies in the financial tracking? - what do you bring to the table in terms of contractor management? This is a big thing for me as being rigorous and predictable when dealing with contractors I bring in for specific tasks is even more important than being rigorous for my internal processes. I would guess that many micro-business work with a network of contractors for the things that are not their core expertise. - what's the eventual business model?
