The law preventing movie studios from owning theaters was lifted 3-4 yrs ago [1]. Sony recently bought out the failing theater chain, Alamo Drafthouse as part of this deregulation.
Seems we are slowly drifting into an era where:
“To see a Sony or Netflix produced film; you must go to a Sony or Netflix owned theater.”
It’s DRM for physical or in real life viewing.
Wonder if popcorn and other cheap snacks will continue to be expensive in these vertically integrated studio-theaters
