I'm hearing this all over the place right now, feels like it means something along the lines of feature, how does everyone else understand it?

In software, I first heard "surfaces" used about 30 years ago in the context of computer security (attack surfaces).

In general, I interpret it as a five dollar word that means "where the world interacts with the software".

    As in "attack surfaces"?
