I see a lot of very important projects on GitHub with very few backers/sponsors.

Lets take NSwag for example.

It is used by multibilliondollar corporations (banks, insurance providers, to name a few) and they are not listed as sponsors.

NSwag is mostly a one-man show, and it pains me to see just how much heart and soul this person has poured into NSwag, with very little being given back to him.

Which project is used by your employer that you consider critical? Is your corporation sponsoring the project?

What can we, as employees, do to get our stakeholders to become aware and understand the importance of backing critical packages/projects?

If you already succeeded in this, what did you do? How did you persuade your corporation to sponsor a project?

How can we get better at giving back?
