    Yes, there are male chessplayers who mistreat females -- that is unfortunately true for any activity. Institutionally, however, there is heavy discrimination in favor of females, even though chess is a mental game. At big open tournaments there are often prizes reserved for women, and there are women-only tournaments and a women's national and world championships. There are no male-only tournaments (I'm not saying there should be). For a given level of chess ability (as measured by Elo rating), a female can make considerably more money than a male, whether through tournament prizes or as a streamer.
