DoorDash won't let you tip NYC drivers without the app

When is this “tip after service” thing going to be rolled out to every country?

I’m really tired of tipping in advance, having the tip automatically set to 30%, being threatened with cold food if I remove the advanced tip, etc.

    >Now, in New York City, customers like myself who want to continue tipping must do so after their order is placed.

    >On the DoorDash app, the “add tip” option is near the top when viewing a past order.

    > “We know tips are still an important way for consumers to show Dashers their appreciation, so consumers will still be able to tip after checkout and for up to 30 days after they order,”

Isn't this how it's supposed to work? Why would I tip before my order is delivered?

Great. The whole idea of tipping is so ridiculous. Like, “I paid you for your service but here’s 20% more just because for unwritten rules I’m supposed to pay this.”

Tipping before service is a bribe or unofficial bidding war to jump the line or worse, be in the line for pick up at all.

Is there a reason why you can't just tip your driver in cash?

I live in NYC and have ordered from 3 different delivery apps in the last 2 weeks - GrubHub, GoPuff and a local alcohol delivery app. All of them let me tip in advance when placing the order.

No app will prevent you giving the driver some cash..
