Came across this paper while trying to research about a tangential topic: The phenomenon where almost every country in the world, at some point during the Covid years, encouraged their citizens to clap/make noise of some sort at a specific time.

Every country seems to have their own version of it, from collective clapping as an acknowledgement for social workers, to doing it simply as a social morale-lifting exercise, to banging plates to make noise (in case of India, I came across normal as well as 'spiritual' justifications for it).

I'm primarily interested in how it came about, why almost every government seems to have picked up on it, and what it takes for something like this to become a global exercise. I'm still exploring the topic, if you have any links/leads, they would be appreciated!
