Ask HN: Is the num of posts in the "Who's Hiring" post indicative of anything?

I noticed the number of comments in this month's "Who's hiring" post is unusually low with only 168 or so comments today. That's by far the lowest of any month I spot checked going back 5 years or so.

Back in 2019-2021 (with exception of early pandemic times) most months got around 1000 posts. Then I can see after the rate hikes around early 2022 when the market started going south most posts got around 600-700 or so.

Then 2023 I see around 500 or so posts each month, and this year most posts under 500 and then today, though still with some time, absolutely tanked.

I feel like I watch both threads casually every first of the month, and nothing felt weird or different about this one to me. I haven't ever kept track of total posts, more of the ratio between who wants to be hired posts vs who's hiring posts. Is it possible that a majority of posts aren't made on the day of the post?

Are you counting jobs posted or total comments?

The total number of comments should rise in a few days or so after as people comment on their experiences applying to a company.

    You are correct.
