A Case for Audio Guides at Museums

The author makes the case for guides, but not for audio guides. In my experience, these dumb things down, are slow, and add fluff like background music and sound effects. Selfishly, I would prefer if museums provided an interesting written text that would let me dig deeper into artworks if I want.

When the artwork is significant enough to get a Wikipedia article, it will often be better than audioguides. I’ve been to unesco sites where the wiki article was more accurate and up to date than the paid tour guide.
