  What becomes commonplace becomes boring.

  Move on to something different, or be part of the boring subculture that mostly uses the internet to indulge their interests, such as tech news (HN) or small groups.

  If hosting were free (and ad-free) I'd be hosting small group discussions. Email still works for small and private (unless one of your members uses gmail) discussions.

  Everything is about maximizing profit, and shuffling people around to optimize their consumption to make that happen.
