Ask HN: Is Google logging you out on Firefox?

by vincvinc on 11/20/23, 6:35 PM with 6 comments

Starting some point in the last few months, my Google Account on Firefox on my desktop keeps being logged out every few hours.

I had not changed any setting, used any VPN, etc.

It’s very annoying, since it means constantly losing progress in any Gmail and Youtube tabs.

It doesn’t happen in Chrome, on mobile apps, etc.

I wonder if I’m the only one.

I'm having some trouble with YouTube. Possibly, Videos don't load fast for some reason. Now, I remember a YouTube Video about something related to this issue and Chrome's web integrity.

I think, Google is trying to push ads more and more.

Are there any extensions that you installed recently, say a few months ago? I can otherwise report that my installation of Firefox with which I have used to log into a Google account has never been inexplicably logged out from said account as far as I can remember.

It happens to me with my work Google account under a Google Workspace plan. I also lose data. We've filed a couple tickets on the matter and they state they don't know what's going on and recommended I use Chrome instead.

Nope, I've never been logged out of my Google account by mistake. Are you using Incognito mode, or an extension, or some sort of proxy setup?

I have my personal gmail pinned (on FF) and was never logged out of it.
