Ask HN: Looking for a project to volunteer on? (November 2023)

by mdwalters on 11/2/23, 12:37 PM with 2 comments

This thread is open to anyone seeking for volunteer projects and anyone who is seeking volunteers for their projects.

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS: A good example would be to write the name of the project, and a short description. Also write down the project website and git forge URL, and write the programming languages it uses. Also, please don't forget to start your comment off with "SEEKING VOLUNTEERS."

SEEKING PROJECTS: If comfortable doing so, write down your name, and programming languages that you know. Also don't forget to write down some of the projects that you have volunteered on, or some of the projects that you made, and what you are interested in working on. Optionally, you can write your email, if you want opportunities to be discussed privately. Also, please don't forget to start your comment off with "SEEKING PROJECTS."

    Seeking: https://github.com/fwsGonzo/libriscv

This is a C++ RISC-V emulator that focuses on isolating a single process, aka userspace emulation. I am currently working mostly on binary translation, and recently I have made a push to move it from experimental state to fully supported. Another experimental feature is embedding libtcc and using that for binary translation. It is fairly fast to compile, and gives decent speedups. The challenge is what to do now that (perhaps) some low hanging fruits have been picked.

I'd love to start working with anyone who wants to turn the web into a solid platform for application development with Linux on the Web. It has been over a decade in the making, and is starting to become quite stable. It is almost entirely written in Javascript. Try it online at https://linuxontheweb.github.io/. The github repo is https://github.com/linuxontheweb/linuxontheweb.github.io
