Ask HN: What is/was your biggest pain point with integrating PayPal with Stripe?

by NavyG on 8/1/23, 1:53 PM with 2 comments

[1] Need for paypal: Do you think you do not need paypal if you have stripe

[2] Integration effort: is this a blocker for adding paypal?

[3] Checkout experience: how much do you care about the UX of your checkout given you have to render the paypal button separately

[4] Analytics / ops: How would you manage stripe and paypal dashboards separately for analytics, chargebacks, refunds etc

[5] Pricing: Paypal's pricing might work out to be cheaper for businesses of certain scale, would this be a decision driver?

In addition, a second processor would de-risk your payments by preventing a lock in with any one processor. Is this an important consideration for you?

Note: We are not affiliated with Stripe / Paypal, we are building an open source payment switch which comes pre integrated with stripe, paypal, other processors. Also we are not referring to integration on e-commerce platforms like shopify

There might not be a drastic improvement in the checkout UX even if Stripe offered Paypal as a payment method, but whether providing paypal would improve conversion rates is a question to be answered.

Stripe needs me to have a Paypal business account. It's a bit much for a donation button.
