If you just know SQL you’re a data analyst or DBA at best. You need to know an actual programming language (Python is the obvious choice) to be a data engineer: you can’t use SQL to scrape a website. Maybe this is different in a huge corporation where the data is neatly packaged up for you already but at any startup type company you’re going to need to source (engineer) data sooner or later.
