As an aside, anyone remember what was the expensive/impactful commit to MySQL that changed how unicode/utf encoding works?

Just as I posted, I found it: https://github.com/mysql/mysql-server/commit/43a506c0ced0e6ea101d3ab8b4b423ce3fa327d0#

I have a few that saved some cost. For example turning of metrics generation for _all_ host headers on NGINX instances serving millions of users.

That “feature” cost outages during security attacks and a quite significant SaaS bill, because we were also ingesting the logs of the dying NGINX instances.

Putting a ring on the ex-wife. Was able to revert it several years later but the damage was done.
