Ask HN: What's the best software for screencast production on Windows?

by deanebarker on 1/30/23, 9:00 PM with 2 comments

I find myself doing more and more screencasts and video demos. I've used Loom and Camtasia and such, but I'm ready to invest both money and time to really get better at it.

What's the state of the art in video/screencast production for Windows? Is there some software that All The Cool Kids™ are using?

I've been partial to OBS Studio for doing that sort of thing in the past. But honestly, I haven't used many of the others, so I can't give you a head-to-head comparison. But OBS definitely, in my experience, "just works" and is fine for this kind of thing.

Camtasia is the best. I've been using it for 10+ years. The only software where I'm looking forward to new releases. Not to mention asset library that is part of it.
