Migadu.com Hosting within OVH datacenters – secure?

by holigot on 1/18/23, 4:35 PM with 7 comments

Hi,

the swiss provider does host it's mailservers within OVH datacenters.

Time ago there was a huge fire (bad safety/security of those centers) and many people lost their data.

Does Migadu split their data to several physical datacenters, or are they all located within one centers?

Would be nice to get a feedback.

Thx.

Our infrastructure is split among several datacenters. We utilize also multliple datacenters within individual regions. In case of a complete datacenter disaster as it has happened in Strasbourg, we'd be minimally affected with possible data loss of 15 - 60minutes of the most recent data.

That said, chances another OVH datacenter will burn down are significantly lower now compared to other datacenter providers.

Past accidents are no indicator of future failure.

Sometimes once burned, twice as wary.

In non-aphorisms but general hearsay: I have heard second hand that OVH never want a second event to occur like that notorious fire and have taken many steps to prevent a second disaster outage.

That said, if you want to know Migadu's specific data reliability plans, then yes you should probably make a direct inquiry.

If you want a sure answer I would suggest emailing them.

Thx for all the feedback. I thought, that maybe someone knows it. But ok - I think I will ask them when I do find time to test them.

    Thx for the first feedback.

Before asking Migadu in first place I thought asking over here would be a good choice because some other Migadu Users already know something concerning this point.
