I've read of a 30 to 50 yr timeline until we can have a working reactor. I hope so but we need to be realistic that it's likely to be much longer since there are so many unknowns. We should focus on the energy sources that we know work like thermo,solar and nuclear.
The real advance would be a fool proof fission reactor that's accident proof. In addition, we need its spent fuel to be fully and easy to recycle. All of which can be done in the 30-50 yrs period.
We can do both but let's make sure we don't lose focus of the innovations we know can be done to move away from fossil fuels.
