Ask HN: Where to buy (DRM-free) ePub books?

by motiejus on 11/17/22, 7:23 AM with 5 comments

So I just purchased my non-kindle e-reader. I would like to buy books for it. Like the shelf books, but to my e-reader.

Do such websites to legally acquire e-pub books even exist? I wasn't able to find one. Happy to pay for those as much as for physical copies.

I am interested in history and politics; my first target is 0199797455, assuming I can find where to buy it.

    This maybe https://www.vitalsource.com/products/waging-war-wayne-e-lee-... ?

There are endless websites that sell ebooks (ePub is only one format, you can easily switch between formats if you need), just google the name+ebook or epub

Baen Books (https://www.baen.com/) is a publisher that only releases DRM free ebooks. They primarily publish scifi / fantasy books that you can buy from their site directly.

Have you checked the websites of the local bookstores in your country?

Many offer such things. Your local library may surprise you as well.

I use Amazon, then strip the DRM using Calibre + a plugin.
