Ask HN: Is anyone doing ML car tuning?

by nodefortytwo on 10/25/22, 8:25 AM with 1 comments

I watch lots of modified car videos and used to be into the scene properly 10 years ago. It occured to me that the process tuners go through is basically adjusting a few key variables and testing power output.

It seems like that could be something we could automate / adapt in real time without needing humans.

Maybe. I think there's probably a lot of external variables that are being weighed that would take just as long to plug in as to just tweak the numbers as you go. Probably the biggest benefit would be some sort of connected network collecting the mod and dyno data to give builders suggestions of the "optimal" mods and tunes for their car. I say "optimal" because the end goals can be different depending on the application, and longevity isn't easily captured.
