Basic Soldering Lesson 1 – “Solder and Flux” (1980)

    Is this in reaction to the "auto-feed" soldering idea from yesterday https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32982310 ?

    As shown in the part 2 follower of the this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mrhg5A1a1mU), the whole point is to get the wire hot enough so that solder wicks into it, which is I think a risk of failure with "auto-feed" (besides using too much solder).

    But more generally I love the idea from this video of a "workpiece indicator" (WPI at 17:36) as the way you get feedback from the thing you're working on, to ensure that your work is proceeding as intended. I think this is a great general idea, which could also be applied to debugging code, but so far I haven't been able to do web searches that point me to resources about workpiece indicators in craft more generally - do any others have pointers?
