When war broke out in Ukraine, we watched American borders gleefully open up for the deserving migrants, but in contrast, we've seen years of Haitian, Cuban, African, and Mexican migrants fleeing the same types of chaos getting the boot back home, or far worse, and it simply manifests in the news as "Here we go again"... Brought to you by the same people who covered Ukrainian refugees like this -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kn0j58Cq4TI
Ukrainian refugees definitely needed the refuge, I would never say they weren't deserving... But the contrast of how America report on and receives migrants of darker skin tones, is frequently not the same warm welcome -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuEhWzum4gc
We also have sent Billions of dollars overseas to Ukraine, as if investing heavily into building local countries up like Mexico wouldn't serve to dramatically reduce the need for people to keep fleeing the country into the US.
America's migration policies have been skewed and selectively administered for a really really long time now. We need to begin to ask why?
I think every day is an opportunity for all of us to reflect clearly on the bias and indifference to the suffering of others and policies that are implemented in our country that we constantly turn blind eyes away from, and stop tolerating the imbalances in their enforcement.
