Inescapable, overly complicated, and cumbersome building codes designed by bodies of unaccountable, unelected functionaries are part of the reason we've got a housing crisis right now. Codes governing livestock and gardening will increasingly be responsible for a food crisis that's just beginning. Conformist codes will be the death of this country.
