Ask HN: Is It Possible for Me to Work Remotely?

by OulaX on 1/24/22, 7:24 PM with 2 comments

Living in developing countries has its ups and downs (Mostly Downs). One of the worst things is the lack of jobs for Software Developers.

I was wondering do employers hire people from such countries? Or most of the jobs are for westerners?

Should I pursuit this goal of mine of working remotely?

There may be a taxation issue at hand, depending on what country you are in, or what country you are presenting your CV in.

I once hired a guy from India for a temp dev gig, and we both joked that he could have stayed home in India and did it from there instead of having to trek all the way over here. He was already here, and his intention was to stay... it was just a fun joke because of the lack of hand-holding needed for the gig. I literally gave him a big desk and a computer, and then let him do his thing without stepping on his toes. It was just after Y2K when offices were de rigueur, and I just happened to have one.

    What timezone are you in?

id EMEA, you can grab a list of startups that got funded in EU last year, visit those one by one and see if they employ remote workers. Ive seen many many job offers not advertised anywhere else that accept remote workers.

I cant guarantee you they will hire outside EU, just one tactic to find jobs with low competition
