Show HN: Cursor – An AI Email Companion

by mntruell on 1/20/22, 5:35 PM with 5 comments

Hey HN! I built https://cursor.so/, a chrome extension to help you write email blazingly fast.

Cursor has three key features 1) describe your email and have an AI write a draft for you 2) one-click to shorten your email and 3) highlight text to change its tone (make it more formal/casual/friendly).

I hope that Cursor can make writing email more easy and fun for some of you :).

Happy to chat about the AI or dev stack behind the product. Let me know if you have any questions/comments/feature requests!

Hey, this looks quite interesting, and something I'd take a serious look at to just get my time back when it comes to emails.

    First thoughts:

    1. How much training does this need to be considered functional? I.e. I see your example GIF of writing two sentences and out comes a formal Cursor email. Looks great, but that goes beyond NLP, there is context in the output I do not see in the input. So what would need to happen to get to the GIF if I start from scratch?

    2. Is there any kind of confidence score that indicates the estimated quality of the output? Reason here is that communication is still a pareto system for me: There might be occassions where it's delicate to communicate correctly, and messing up that one time might have disproportionate effects. Granted, I'd reread an email in such a case, but any visual cue as to how likely I should be rereading an output would bring peace of mind.

In any case, congrats on shipping, and best of luck for the next steps!

Waitlists should go into general not Show HN.

    > Show HN is for something you've made that other people can play with. HN users can try it out, give you feedback, and ask questions in the thread.

    > Off topic: blog posts, sign-up pages, newsletters, lists, and other reading material. Those can't be tried out, so can't be Show HNs. Make a regular submission instead.

Why isn't there a live demo?
