Ask HN: Have you ever coded while being high? What was the result?

I've heard the phrase "Think high, work sober" and I basically agree with the premise. I don't smoke when I have a deadline, but sometimes I like to change my perspective and mind-space sometimes. Mostly I had really good ideas about coding (or solving problems/bugs in a much different way) when I smoked weed.

Have you ever coded while being high? What was the result?

Results were disastrous. Looked at the code the next day, threw it all out and started again. Every time.

I don't partake, but one strategy I use is dreaming up of ideas at 'the witching hour' of 3AM in the morning, jotting down ideas, so I can work on them when I wake up. For some reason my mind races at that hour, so I take full advantage of it.

You often hear people failing to fall asleep because of racing thoughts, but jotting down those ideas makes me fall asleep since I got the ideas 'out of my system' so to speak.
