Simplest illustration of this is that living standards for the working class in the richest countries have hardly increased in 40 years, while same working class in poorest countries went from mass deaths from starvation, to quite tolerable, and still fast improving, living conditions. Over 40% of people worldwide lived in extreme poverty in 1980 and now barely 7% do. Outside of Sub-Saharan Africa, under 3% is deeply poor now and may well be under 1% in just 5 years.
