I have been interested in art, design and photography for a long time. However, I am lacking the patience and skills to create with physical media and working with computers just feels more "natural". So I thought making watercolour images from photos would be a nice 3 month side-project. A couple of years later there now is a reasonably working algorithm and a web-site around it.

It took a lot of learning about non-photorealistic rendering. I also had to catch up on the last 10 years in web development and took the opportunity to learn more about serverless and AWS.

The implementation is mostly in OpenCV with Python/Numpy and a couple of things in C# with Python bindings. The web-site is static, based on a free template from https://cruip.com and the calculations happen in AWS lambda functions.

The name rembrob has no meaning, I stumbled over a paper studying artificial words https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S07495... where it scored quite high and an unscientific survey in my family gave the most smiles for this one.
