Ask HN: Which tech stacks and business domains are more age-friendly in IT?

I'm afraid that IT is quite aversive to devs of older ages. I do not seek to understand why and to what extent that is true but I am starting to bump into it.

I think though that there might be specific tech stacks, business domains and roles that might be less aversive to older age and even actively seeking employees in age brackets of > 40 yrs old.

So, the question is, you have seen such patterns?

Thanks

Senior testers, and Senior testers with test automation background.

There are endless junior testers, but unlike developers most of them stay junior. Trying to recruit a good, experienced senior tester is nearly impossible. Add to that coding and automating skills which are as rare to find and you'll get your golden ticket to pension.

The problem? There is no one straight forward path to being one, there is no good education and you can't practice at home or even on an open source porject

Fields where domain knowledge is required (physics, chemistry, materials, …) tend to have older developers due to the time required to acquire both domain and development knowledge. They can pair with pure developers, but it can be more efficient if it can be done with fewer than more people.
