The submission yesterday (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=27886900) about a proof that P = NP being published (and immediately retracted) got me thinking about the immediate havoc it could cause. Assuming a low enough exponent on the polynomial function, everything we assume about modern cryptography goes out the window.
