by rhim on 7/20/21, 10:54 AM with 4 comments

I am looking for a tool which is able to create simple 2D animations. I would like to move a 2D shape on a definable path on a timeline.

My requirements are:

- Free of charge

- Runs on linux

- Export to mp4, svg or gif is possible

Already discovered:

- GIMP

- svgator.com (not free)

Blender seems to have a decent 2d animation development environment with Grease Pencil now. Worth checking out - https://www.blender.org/features/grease-pencil/

    Google Web Designer: https://webdesigner.withgoogle.com/

    Windows, Mac and Linux

It's intended for creating HTML5 ads, but you can create whatever you want. The export is HTML, but you can use a screen recorder to export to video.

You can combine gif.com.ai with zimjs to do what you want to achieve. Sorry I can’t provide more instruction at the moment. But try a search for these techniques.

You could use Godot (or Unity, but Godot would be easier) which has 2d animation tools, then record it to OBS.

    Barring that, Blender?
