Ask HN: Honest Thoughts on Triplebyte, Others?

i've seen many more triplebyte-esque / -ish services appear within the last year and i was curious if folks opinions / thoughts have changed since covid, etc.

... i don't have a strong personal opinion as i've had hiring success w/o using services like tb... but i've also used tb and the results have been positive as well.

I got reasonable offers from 2/3 companies I went on-site with from Triblebyte. I found that their stable of companies had too many tiny startups with questionable (read: boring/dumb) product ideas. I wanted a company with 100-300 employees so not many of their partners met my criteria. I found their recruiting partner that works with you kind of annoying... I didn't appreciate them texting me/"checking in" all the time. It's bad enough to deal with the company recruiters doing this, I don't need another cook in the kitchen. Overall, I didn't think it was a waste of time but I don't think I'd use it again now that I know that they mostly represent smaller companies with advertising/fintech aspirations.

I went through a 3 month interview process and didn't get the job at the last stage. It was a controversial decision among the team, which was why it took so long. The basic personality filter and basic coding skill test took about a month all in all. I'd rather those things be shared across other applications.

I think past a certain salary level, these extensive processes are common. It's fair, but cruel. And I'd love to see more services tackle that.
