And then there's the inevitable Santa Claus factor, where a younger relative or someone enters the equation, so all adults present must now watch themselves so as not to "break kayfabe". I remember talking to a wrestling fan about Brock Lesnar, who has been in and out of legitimately competitive MMA due to injuries, and whose career fell back onto pro wrestling when he was too injured to compete in MMA any longer, and a kid was confused how he couldn't compete in MMA but he could "compete" in the WWE.
To someone who has always found sports cultures in general to be very odd and alien, this specific fandom is another level of remarkable and fascinating.

I'm only really familiar with Hololive, but their streamers exist in this very strange state of pseudo-acting. They have an avatar and a theme associated with that avatar, but there's absolutely no way they can be expected to stay true to a script when they're doing hour long streams (Korone has streamed for 26 hours straight before, only stopping for bathroom breaks). So a lot of their individual personalities shine through in what they say and do. The better the streamer can mix their own real-life personality with the character, the more engaging the streamer.
Probably the best examples of this are Kiryu Coco and Houshou Marine. Coco has had both real life and scripted controversies and it's sometimes hard to tell which is which. She is supposedly Japanese but speaks English with a southern accent. With Marine it has become a running joke that her character is supposed to be 17 when it is blatantly obvious that she is in her late twenties / early thirties. Additionally, she plays the role of a playful and devious pervert, but has so many very strange and sometimes raw stories about pornography and sexual experiences it's really hard for me to believe that it is all scripted; it seems more like someone got to know her really well and wrote a fantasy character around her real personality.
Overall I find the more genuine streamers (Like Amelia, who barely plays a character at all) much more entertaining, but there is a real sense of playful mystery when people's real lives get onscreen alongside their character.
