Very simple, if not simplistic: Focus on time, not pages read. Psychologically one can almost subconsciously operate on the notion that information can flow into your brain via proximity to a book.

My goal is to set aside an hour per day for specifically BOOK reading in 2021.

As a Christian my goal is to read my 5 chapters (Psalms, Proverbs, OT, Gospel, other NT) on 71% (5/7) of the days of each month (apart from the above 1 hr).

Stop reading books if you're not enjoying them or not getting anything out of them.

Set aside time when you'll relax and unwind and read.

I don't buy the premise. The question just turns reading books into a task. I don't feel bad if I watch sportsball or doomscroll instead of reading something. I also don't feel bad if I miss watching a game because I'm reading a good story.
