I am considering an offer to join Amazon Alexa. Do you think Alexa is/will be a success? Do you have numbers on its active users?
For me, it all comes down to whether there are, or will be, use cases, which will be multiple times better doable with Alexa, than with an alternative product/behaviour.
Pro Alexa: -huge Amazon management attention and budgets -100m sold devices. And people who use it buy 5-10% more Amazon products -ecosystem with a lot of abilities, and machine learning will put further fuel to the fire -you can do cool things at work with great people, regardless of whether it will be a business success
Contra Alexa: As far as I am aware, there is no real great use case so far. Many people like it as a goodie, but I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t want to live without it. Top use cases seem to be setting a timer, asking for music, or asking for weather. You don’t need a 1000+ people department for that. As such, I am afraid that it will be a business failure.
