While I am highly very motivated to learn and use new browser APIs as and when they arrive, and have a good understanding of design (I dabbled as a freelance designer for an year) I find most of my colleagues lacking in knowledge, or in enthusiasm. They would gladly build applications by stitching together off the shelf libraries from github, while I would rather code the same myself, knowing I can write a lighter, more performant version of it which is better suited to our use case. I hate being transactional.
I love developing tooling, improving DX and tweaking page performance, a thankless job that no one else wants to touch.
At times, this feeling of superiority leads to guilt. I understand I am more passionate about open web and it's ever growing possibilities than the average developer, but I'm not sure how I can channel this energy and knowledge the right way?
