I was wondering which startup databases/directories you know as I'm currently thinking about building one. With startup databases I mean a database that provides informations about a startup in a structured way so one can search/filter it to find for example every startup in Austin, TX that raised +10m, was founded less then 2 years ago and has a mobile product. I found a couple of different services, but they all lack at least one of these things:
- they are incomplete and not up to date
- it is difficult to search/analyse as data is not really structured
- they don't have meaningful data
- they are sometimes delivered in some expensive "pdf-report" layout instead of an easy to use website
So here are my questions to you:
- Do you need a database like this and why/in which cases do you need it? How often would you use one?
- What do you typically miss?
- What don't you like with the existing solutions?
I'm thinking about building the software and let people contribute to it similar to wikipedia.
Thank you very much for your help and ideas!
